Troy Lee Designs Back at Miller Motorsports Park

AMA Motocross - Toole, UT

It may have been the first time for an AMA National Motocross race at the infamous Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, but it wasn’t the first time for Team TLD. Miller’s Supermoto course is legendary and it held a national for years during the mid 2000's. Led by then team captain Jeff Ward, the TLD Supermoto squad won many events on the asphalt and dirt hybrid circuits. This past weekend, the team attacked the new national motocross track nestled in the infield of the world famous road course.

Malcolm Stewart started the first 450 moto around 10th and was in good position to charge forward. Unfortunately, a fall on the first lap would set him back to 18th and it would take him the entire moto to get back to the 10th position where he would finish. The second moto saw Malcolm come around on the opening lap in 15th and begin to charge forward. A second lap crash would hamper his efforts, however, and he would be unable to finish the moto.

The 250 class is being contested by three TLD riders: Cole Seely, Jessy Nelson and rookie Shane McElrath. Seely got a terrible jump in the first moto and had to make up time. Cole was making steady progress when he came over a blind jump and slammed into Jeremy Martin who had fallen in front of him. Fortunately, neither rider was hurt in the incident. Seely would rebound for 19th that moto. Meanwhile, Jessy Nelson started mid-pack and got caught up in the pace of the pack he was in. Jessy simply couldn’t break free from the pace of the pack and finished 14th. Shane McElrath is still learning the ropes of professional racing. He also rode with the same aggressive group of riders for much of the moto and after the intense battle Shane was able to net a 17th position finish.

The second 250 moto was difficult for all the TLD boys. Seely started out decent but contact with another rider early on would result in a bent radiator and some lost time. He would fight on to finish 12th. Nelson, still racing himself into shape from a long injury break, continued to be consistent and crossed the line in 15th while McElrath fought the worsening track conditions to finish 16th.

All of the riders are looking for better results as the season comes to a close next weekend in Lake Elsinore, California. Come out for the last national of the year and cheer on the Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda riders as they fight for points and glory in the California sun next Saturday.
