TLD at 2013 ABA USA BMX Pro Series Round 1 in Phoenix

BMX - Phoenix, AZ

Troy Lee Designs Bicycle Athlete Manager Craig 'Stikman' Glaspell went out to Phoenix this weekend to check out the first round of ABA USA BMX Pro Series racing at Black Mountain BMX just North of Phoenix.

Here is his weekend race report:

I went to see our entire TLD team in action, but more importantly, to see our newest big signing, Sam Willoughby, attempt to back up his incredible 2012 season of becoming World Champion, USA BMX Series Champion, World Supercross Champion and Olympic BMX Silver Medalist.

BMX Nationals are broken down into 2 days of racing, and Saturday saw Sam Willoughby and Women's Pro, Alise Post (also a TLD athlete), winning most, if not all of their motos throughout the day. When the main events came late Saturday night, bad luck would strike as Alise went down in the first of three main event motos (combined for an overall score) and she would sit out the rest of the mains in order to recuperate for Sunday. Sam had a bad start in the first moto but came back to win the final main for a 3rd overall.

“I can’t believe I blew that first moto, but glad I was able to pull it together and get 3rd overall," said Sam. "We will regroup and get it sorted for tomorrow.”

TLD ladies had a decent night with Amanda Geving taking a 4th place spot, Alise Post, Laura Smulders (Dutch BMX and Olympic Bronze medalist) and Mariana Pajon (Dans Comp and Olympic Gold Medalist) all rounding out the top 8.
