Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda at Millville Motocross

AMA Motocross - Millville, MN

The TLD team stopped in Millville, MN Saturday for one of the more popular races on the series schedule. Spring Creek Raceway has elevation changes, great dirt and, as the name implies, a creek running right through the park. In other words, it is the perfect place for the world’s fastest racers to get together and bang bars. And that is exactly what they did last weekend.

Malcolm Stewart kicked the first 450 moto off with a 20th place start, not exactly where he wanted to be. But he put his head down and moved forward to 12th by the end of the race. It was a good ride in a field that has as much depth of talent as ever before. The second moto Stewart jumped out to a 10th place start and looked to have a good shot at a solid moto. He rode fantastically and climbed to 7th with one lap to go, and then he came around to the infamous sand whoops. Malcolm swapped right, then left, then right, then left, then, well, you know what happened next. He dusted himself off, picked up his bike and finished the moto in 15th, which gave him 13th overall for the weekend.

Cole Seely got a great jump in his opening moto and rounded turn one in 7th. His second time around the track he had a tip-over that cost him a few spots but he jumped back on and finished the moto in 12th. That seemed to set the tone for the day for Cole, who has been riding great lately. His second moto began with a top-ten start and then a slow slide back to 14th by the end of the race. According to Seely he was simply unable to get into a rhythm and he struggled with the rough Spring Creek circuit. Cole’s finishes earned him 13th overall for the day.

The team now gets a weekend off to regroup, recuperate and rest. The next round is at the famed Unadilla Valley Sports Park in New Berlin, NY in two weeks. Jessy Nelson will return to the 250 action, and Shane McElrath will make his pro debut. If you’ve ever wanted to see riders fly out of Gravity Cavity, Screw-U or the Corkscrew you should make plans to come watch the Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda team in two weeks.
