How did you get into off-road racing?
I was brought up around everything on wheels and grew up wanting nothing more than to be behind a steering wheel or handle bars.
How old were you when you started driving and riding?
I started driving at the age of 4 and riding motorcycles shortly after.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Southern California, but at the age of 5 I moved with my family to North Carolina where we lived for 6 years. I then moved back to Orange County in 2000 and have lived there ever since.
How did you first get introduced to TLD and/or Troy?
Troy and my father, Rick Johnson, were friends long before I existed and Troy painted his helmets. So Troy has sponsored me with gear and painted skid lids since day one.
How long have you been with TLD?
Since right after I was born in 1992.
Which TLD products are you using?
SE Pro Jersey, Pants and Gloves; SE3 McQueen Helmet; too much casual gear to even count. There are so many good products but only so much closet space!
Do any athletes/drivers influence or inspire your style?
My father Rick Johnson, Steve McQueen, Kendall Norman, Jimmie Johnson and Jack Flannery.
What do you like to do when you are not driving?
RIde motocross, RC Cars, surf and spend time with my family and friends.
What bands/music are you into?
LMFAO, Mac Miller, The Deans List, Skrillex, Wiz Khalifa, G- Easy, Sugar Hill Gang, Notorious BIG.
List 3 goals you have for your upcoming season:
1. Win multiple races.
2. Win Pro Lite Championship.
3. Better myself all around as an athlete.
List a few highlights from your career:
2009 TORC Rookie of the Year.
Signing with Menzies Motor Sports and Red Bull in 2011.
What's your favorite event and why?
A Day in the Dirt, hands down. I have so much fun every year catching up with friends I haven't seen for a year, and the family environment is just so cool. It's cool to see little kids running around jumping over bon fires and stuff like I used to years ago.
What is your ideal epic ride day?
My ideal epic ride day would be rolling out to the track and having all my friends and family be there to ride with. That is the reason A Day in the Dirt is such and epic event - because you get that 3 days in a row!
What's the best thing about being a professional athlete?
For me it's seeing the inspiration I can give to a kid pursuing his or her dream, and how happy you can make someone with a simple signature. And I would be lying if I didn't say I enjoy the free product!
If you weren't a professional athlete, how would you spend your time?
I would probably have a job in the motocross or off-road industry because I think I would get bored doing anything else.
If you were running things, what would you change about the industry?
If I were running things, I would start getting in to stadium racing. I think it's a great platform for the trucks we race.
Who would you like to thank?
First off, my mom and dad who have supported my dreams since day one and have done everything in their power to help me get to where I am today, Troy Lee Designs and staff - You guys have always been great to me, especially Troy, Sheri, Kevin, Shoko, and Jeff - I appreciate everything over the years. All my great sponsors that are backing me: Red Bull, Ram Trucks, KMC Wheels, FreshPark Industries, BFGgoodrich Tires, and Menzies Motorsports for building me one hell of a truck.
Any words of wisdom?
Follow your dreams.
