Testing Porsche's Hybrid Race Car
Video Feature of 2010 Porsche GT3 with Patrick Long

Patrick Long, native of Oak Park, California (Ventura County), has had racing in his blood since he was little kid. At the age of 5, he drove his first kart and from that moment, never considered another sport. Raised in a race-crazed family of speedway bikes, motocross and sprint car enthusiasts, Patrick got an early exposure to the SoCal speed scene. Early success in karting led to an offer to race for a factory team in Italy, so at age 16 Patrick packed up and moved, solo, to Europe to begin his professional racing education. On the traditional European track to open-wheel stardom, Patrick drove ELF Campus, Formula Ford and Formula Renault until 2002, when he was asked by Red Bull to participate in their inaugural US Formula One Driver Search. During the selection process, he caught the eye of German sportscar powerhouse Porsche, and was abruptly offered a factory contract to race for Porsche, the winningest sportscar manufacturer in racing history.

After just one year of racing in the cutthroat sprint-racing German and British Carrera Cups and the prestigious F1 support series Michelin Supercup, Long made his professional American racing debut in 2003. In 2004, he ran his first full season in the American Le Mans Series, and won the most famous endurance race in the world - the 24 Hours of Le Mans - in his first attempt. Since then, Patrick has become the face of Porsche's racing efforts in North America, and in the process has stacked up wins at the biggest sportscar races in the world, including the 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans, and captured the 2005 ALMS GT2 driver's championship.

As a Porsche factory driver, Patrick's a hired gun. He races for different teams all around the world, but focuses his energy on certain key teams. In 2007, he's racing the Ruby Tuesday Grand-Am Daytona Prototype, won for the 2nd time at Le Mans with a French team. Also, he's raced for world-renowned team Penske Racing, driving the wicked Factory Porsche RS Spyder Prototype, and has driven on numerous occasions with friend-to-TLD Flying Lizard Motorsports including the Long Beach Grand Prix and Detroit street races.

Now, Patrick is enjoying the fruits of his labor and success. With offers to race any weekend, anywhere in the world in a Porsche, Patrick's schedule consists mainly of North American and European races. When he's not traveling to a race or one of his frequent business engagements or Porsche appearaches, Patrick can be found charging the forests and deserts of Central and Southern California on his CRF450, tricked out for long haul dual sport rides. Patrick's sponsors include Oakley, who he's represented for eight years, Girard-Perregaux, a high-end Swiss watch manufacturer, Leeper's Stair Products, Southern California car stylists Wheel Enhancement and now, Troy Lee Designs.

"I've been running green flames on my helmet since I was 9 years old. Troy has always stood out to me as an aggressive painter and his stuff caught my eye from a young age. As a kid, every bit of allowance or Christmas money was always spent on TLD stickers and t-shirts. As I got older, seeing what TLD was up to inspired me to continually improve my design. I might make a living on four wheels, but my passion has always been on two wheels - to be involved with a guy that's so iconic in the moto world makes me feel my roots."

"Sitting in Troy's office this summer and watching him sketch out my helmet design was a surreal moment. The roster of riders and drivers that Troy has had over the years include a lot of my friends, but mainly a lot of my heroes. With my driving career in Europe for so long and driving for a European sportscar manufacturer, working with TLD has become one of those special relationships that has a lot more to do with who I am and where I come from. It's an honor to join the team!"
